Jam for Jobs was quite a night! We rocked out to the sounds of Bluebird Bio’s JC and the Beakers; Bullhorn, Inc.’s Stampede; Monster’s The Spicolis; and Pega's The Layer Cakes at Hard Rock Café Boston. Over 200 people turned out to raise $50,000 for our career development-job placement programs!
Thanks to our distinguished judges—musician/entrepreneur Ven Thangaraj, singer/songwriter Jamie Lynn Hart, HearNowLive’s Danny Norwood, and award-winning producer, composer, musician Malik Williams—for taking on the hard work of picking a winner from our four bands!
First up were The Spicoli’s which repped Monster in Jam For Jobs. The band is named after Sean Penn’s beloved character (Jeff Spicoli) of the 80’s classic "Fast Times at Ridgemont High” and The Spicolis rocked our socks off with an awesome mix of music from the 80's.
Bullhorn’s Stampede followed. Founded in 2015, the fab foursome, which features Bullhorn founder and CEO and Career Collaborative Board chair Art Papas on guitar, took to the Jam for Jobs stage after a long hiatus. Based on audience reception, Stampede hadn’t missed a beat during their layoff!
Last to perform was J.C. & The Beakers. The creative flock of Bluebird Bio employees came together late in 2017 to argue over whether their band should exclusively play songs that mention birds, flying, or the color blue. The debate rages to this day and may never be resolved, but they entertained at Hard Rock Café Boston with their classic rock.
But the favorite of our judges—and our audience—was The Layer Cakes. Comprised of sweet (and self-deprecating) folk who are grateful for their day jobs at Pega, the band formed a few years back in order to surprise and entertain the company at its annual kick-off event. It remains to be seen if their breakout performance at Jam for Jobs will lead worldwide adulation!
Emcee extraordinaire Amy Brooks, an award-winning on-air radio personality and voice talent, kept things moving as we raffled off amazing gift packs from featuring tickets to the Red Sox and Miss Saigon, a spa day at Avanti Salon Boston, a night at the Ritz Carlton, and dinner out at Ruth’s Chris Steak House! She also helped us auction off a pair of tickets located in the Cross Insurance Boardroom at TD Garden to Elton John's final concert and a Fender Telecaster!
Jam for Jobs would not have been possible without our Diamond Album sponsor Pegasystems, Inc; our Platinum Album sponsors Bullhorn and DipJar; our Gold Album sponsor Epiq Global; and our Silver Album sponsors Monster Worldwide, Inc. and CBRE Group.
Thanks to all who supported Jam for Jobs! Together, we are making it easier for adults with low incomes to find quality jobs with benefits from which they can build careers and support their families!
