Engineering his success
Yoseph Gebeyaw joined our class in the summer of 2017, shortly after moving to the United States from Ethiopia with his wife and kids. He owned a construction company in Ethiopia and wanted to continue that work as he settled into his new life here.
One of the first things Yoseph realized was that he needed to obtain industry certifications to work in construction. While he was part of job readiness class at Career Collaborative, he simultaneously prepared for his first engineering exam, which he passed successfully.
Shortly after finishing his job readiness and job search classes, he landed his first job at Home Depot. There, he dramatically improved his English-language skills and also made valuable connections with potential clients. Eventually, he took on home improvement construction projects on the side. This year, after casting a wide search for work that would put his engineering skills to use, Yoseph was offered his dream job as a Construction Inspector for the MBTA.
We’re so happy for Yoseph and his success! And we’re grateful for his return to Career Collaborative to ring the bell and share his story of success which is so inspirational to our current students!
