Career Coach Opportunity

Qualifications

• Experience as a career coach in workforce development programs, HR, staffing & recruitment organizations, or corporate roles

• Ability to motivate adults over a sustained period of time

• Demonstrated understanding of the problems faced by low-income adults and the barriers that make continuous employment difficult

• Exceptional interpersonal, decision-making, problem solving, and crisis management skills

• Understanding of employment rules, regulations and the social skills that contribute to successful employment

• Results oriented individual with excellent organizational skills, attention to detail

• Proven ability to handle competing priorities

• Cultural competency and sensitivity with individuals representing a variety of needs, abilities, and socioeconomic backgrounds

• Bachelor’s degree required

 

Responsibilities:

• Pro-actively coach clients for a minimum of 2 years to help them retain their jobs, advance in their careers, and meet financial goals

• Teach classes and facilitate group discussions on topics such as job search strategies, employers' expectations, workplace culture, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and salary negotiations

• Build relationships with volunteer professionals through active recruitment, training and management of volunteer
engagement in mentoring

• Build relationships with employer partners promoting strong hiring, retention and career advancement plans for placed participants

• Identify issues and concerns, build trusting relationships and provide feedback on progress

• Identify participant needs for support services such as childcare, housing, transitional assistance and provide referrals

• Manage special projects and events to support participants' career advancement

Internship Opportunities

Career Collaborative internships are excellent opportunities for those who wish to explore a potential career in the nonprofit sector and who want the rewarding experience of working directly with clients. Our internships are open to both college students and non-students.

Possible Job Responsibilities:

• Creating management reports

• Direct work with clients searching for jobs

• Job search for clients

• Participate in weekly Practice Interviews

• Outreach for new workshop participants

• Update Resource information for clients

• Update social media

• Writing professional manuals

• Administrative assistance to programs

Internship Hours: 20-30+ hours

Requirements:

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Intermediate computer skills

• Writing skills

• Interest in working with low income, minority, multi-cultural adults

• Patience and persuasiveness

• Exceptional follow-through
